The St. Charles Parks and Recreation Department's Recreation Specialist- Sports is responsible for implementing and facilitating sports-based leagues and programs for both youth and adults.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Plans, develops, organizes, evaluates and supervises community recreation programs for adult and youth programs with an emphasis on adult sports such as softball, horseshoe, and sand volleyball leagues and youth sports such as t-ball, basketball, soccer.
  • Position will typically be scheduled approximately 20 to 25 hours per week. This is a year round position with a schedule that includes mostly afternoons, evenings & some weekends during peak season.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal, organizational and administrative skills as well as computer knowledge.
  • Uses specialized parks and recreation software applications for scheduling of leagues, timekeeping, registration, schedules, and work order system
  • Interviews, recommends applicants, trains, supervises, schedules and evaluates seasonal staff for the various sports programs.
  • Teach program participants age appropriate skills, using appropriate equipment, based on program requirements and ensure the safety and well being of all program participants.
  • Works with Inclusion Coordinator with training, educating staff, and providing staff and outside resources if needed to assure compliance.
  • Plan and prepare daily/weekly program itineraries, schedules and equipment needs.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures stated in the employee manuals.

 

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

  • Minimum of a high school diploma, Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Requires previous experience working in a recreation environment with an emphasis on league scheduling, athletic program planning and coaching preferred
  • Requires customer service, organizational and administrative skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite Programs and ability to learn new software programs
  • Ability to become American Red Cross CPR and First Aid certified
